The Truth About Republicans
It is the dirty little secret they hope stays hidden in plain sight. You know the one I am talking about. It is cloaked in bold lies told by Republicans nationwide. They claim to be a populist party; of the people, by the people, and for the people. But, the people they are for are wrapped in a neat white package with a bible on top, and a White Nationalism flag waving in the background.
Their policies, what few they propose, are regressive, taking Americans back rather than forward. As the country becomes Browner, Blacker, and Younger, the view behind them becomes smaller and less focused on what Republicans are offering. As the 2024 election cycle approaches, Gen Z voters will mature, and Republicans will be in full retreat from the destiny of irrelevance that awaits them.
Following an unprecedented, and successful first midterm election, that saw Democrats hold the Senate, and lose narrowly in the House, President Biden is strongly considering a reelection bid in 2024. This is not good news for Republicans. He will be a formidable opponent with the bully pulpit of the presidency, and the full force of the Democratic Party behind him. But, that is not what Republicans fear most.
Vice President Kamala Harris is a young 58 with a strong public record and a life of service. She and President Biden are a formidable team predicated on trust and policy successes to run on. Harris is building foreign policy experience, is a veteran of the Senate, and is mastering an executive resume of her own.
Speaker Pelosi made the wise decision to pass the role of Minority Leader in the House to Hakeem Jeffries. At 52, the Representative from NY has a notable reputation as a fearless lawmaker. He will not be intimidated by Republican chaos in the lower chamber. Jeffries will gain valuable experience and grow to become Speaker of the House should Democrats retake that legislative body in 2024.
And the truth about Republicans is they fear a scenario where an 82-year-old Biden is reelected in 2024, with a strong Vice President Harris and Democrats assuming control of the House of Representatives. At that point, the presidential line of succession would lead to a Black Woman, and Black Man to secure a new generation of Democrats in power should the unthinkable occur.
Generational White privilege would be forever designated to the back of the room. Republicans would face the nightmare scenario with President Kamala Harris and Hakeem Jeffries annihilating the status quo and ushering in a future where Republicans will not thrive or survive as a relevant political party.
The truth about Republicans is that White privilege is the cornerstone of their governing policy and their base of voters. Should Kamala Harris, a Black Woman ascend to the presidency, their worst fears will be realized. The final glass ceiling will be shattered. Women, young voters, persons of color, LGBTQ+ Americans, and the working poor will form a voting block they will never defeat. The truth about Republicans is they fear a new age in America where White is not Right, and the Future is not theirs.
